The mission of the SUDDS Coalition is to prevent underage drinking and drug use in the Downriver community.
The SUDDs Coalition first began in 2008 when youth from several Downriver communities came together to address the high rate of underage drinking and tobacco use. It was first called the Stop Underage Drinking Downriver Coalition, but now is called the Stop Underage Drinking/Drugs (SUDDs).
The coalition offers prevention and outreach services to 13 Downriver cities. These areas include: North Allen Park, Southgate, Melvindale, Wyandotte, Rockwood, Riverview, River Rouge, Grosse Isle, Gibraltar, Woodhaven, Brownstown Township, Flat Rock, and Trenton.
The goals of the SUDDs Coalition are to reduce underage drinking, youth access to tobacco and prescription drugs, and to increase community collaboration in the Downriver area. The SUDDs Coalition consists of community members from local schools, law enforcement, city government, faith based groups, businesses, hospitals, and many other organizations. The SUDDs Coalition is supported by The Guidance Center and funded through the Drug Free Communities Support Program.
Our vision is for a community free of underage drinking and drugs in which its members are knowledgeable about the consequences of their use.
